The Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks defeated the Auburn Maroons by the score of 2-1 in the season opener for both teams. Both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter. Auburn scored first -- a goal by Mia Cammilleri at 6:25 left in the second quarter. With under a minute remaining in the half, the Mavericks tied the score on a corner, with an unassisted rebound goal by Addy Shantal . Both teams continued to battle, with no goals scored in the third quarter. Finally, at 11:57 in the fourth quarter, Molly Orth intercepted an Auburn free hit at the fifty yard line. Orth carried the ball, weaving in and out of defenders to the twenty yard line. She passed off to Riley Dutcher deep on the right, who then centered the ball to Addy Shantal who scored the go-ahead goal. Morrisville-Eaton was then able to hold Auburn scoreless during the closing minutes. Maverick goalkeeper August Thompson earned five saves with only one goal against. It was an exciting Class D vs Class A matchup to start the season.
